DAY 128 Another Lesson Along the Way

Good Morning Journal & Friends,

I've decided to try to keep things short during the Christmas season. I made the commitment to blog daily, not to write a book daily, LOL!

The reason I didn't get all bothered about the 2 lb gain yesterday is because I have been calorie counting, did fine for the week, so no REASON to be worried.

Having said that, I had one day that taught me a lesson! I guess I thought I should know how to estimate calories by now, and got too complacent. I had been adding up all the calories BEFORE I ate anything. Well, it was Saturday... MyGuy was off work, I was rushing, yadda yadda yadda. Yep... I got it wrong. I went over my chosen daily limit of 1999 calories by 368. Grrrr.

Not a big deal in and of itself. But if I let it become a habit and haven't learned to estimate more accurately, I can see how in the long run it would hinder my progress.

A little here, a little there... I don't want to get into that sloppy mindset that is already allowing exceptions. I don't need exceptions!! I am not at goal... I want to LOSE, not make exceptions. Yeah... it bugged me.

So, my lesson from this is to keep my priorities straight. Stay focused. Right now, I NEED to count 'em before I eat 'em. I am just not at the place yet where I can eat intuitively, or guesstimate the calories. This is just too important to me.

It's a learning process... tweaking and learning and refining as we go. But with each new lesson learned, I am thinking that will make it just that much stronger and permanent.

From Dr Phil's book: "Without question, it is this focused, goal-oriented approach to life that distinguishes winners from losers."

My verse for today: "For nothing is impossible with God."

My quote for today: "There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves." --Will Rogers

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Ahhh one of our great downfalls - guesstimating. I have had a stresful emotional few days (might blog about it later today). My calories for the three days was up and over but yesterday even though my emotions were right on the surface I worked hard to ensure I was actually under my 1800 max.

Thank you for your first sentence - I mustn't ignore my blog and do it daily - and you are correct it doesn't have to be a book. LOL look at my comment - too many words not enough time. Now stop Joanne NOW!! LOL

Sorry. My first comment didn't come out the way I meant it! Sometimes the written word is hard--no tone of voice, so easy to misinterpret. Let me try this again!

Good job! I'm so glad that God's hands are big enough to hold all of the factors and details involved in our lives--and then graciously gives us the insights and knowledge that we need. :)

I love your pictures today! Thanks for commenting on my blog; and I like your analogy of you can't unring a bell! No matter the age, at least we are learning!

Loretta, I always love your attitude. No matter what happens you're always ready to face the problem and make any changes you see necessary! I'm right with you in regards to calorie consumption! I have to count 'em before I eat 'em!

You're doing an amazing job!

Every now and then I return to weighing and measureing my food for awhile. Over time, I tend to "forget" what half a cup of yogurt looks like and need reminding.

Your progress is something to be proud of. My saying for today, "You must do what others won't to achieve what others don't."

JOANNE: "LOL look at my comment - too many words not enough time. Now stop Joanne NOW!! LOL"...
I really laughed at that!! You are talking to the Queen of the BigMouths here! I am soo guilty of blathering on and on in comments.
We all blog for different reasons, but for me, the reason I committed to doing it daily was to keep me focused. I am recovering from some diseases: the As-Soon-As Syndrome, the Tommorrow Tremors, Just-this-Once Attacks, and several I-Want-A-Break fractures.

So that is why I committed to a daily blog... it forces me to focus. Plain and simple. And it's working!

DEB: Oh, I know exactly what you mean about so much being missing in written communication! I once saw a pie chart that divided up how we communicate. Only about 3% was effectively communicated thru the written word! The rest was divided between voice, tone, inflection, facial expression, body language, hand gestures, etc etc. Bless that person that invented those silly little emoticons! ;-)

DAILYSEEKING: Thank you, I am so glad you liked the pics. And I added you to my blog list on my site, because I was missing when you posted. I am enjoying your thoughtful posts.

DEBBIE: Aww, thanks... I'm trying. I have to work on attitude like everyone else. Believe me, some days holding on to a good attitude is like trying to hug a greased piglet!

AMAZON RUNNER: "You must do what others won't to achieve what others don't." I LOVE that. Those are exactly the kind of hard hitting quotes that I NEED. Now, I will imagine hearing it said in Arnolds voice! LOL!!

{ALL}: Yay, Kim is BACK!

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your friendship on this long journey.
