DAY 327 Slackers, Excuses & Consistency

Hello Journal & Friends,

This morning I was horrified when I read my Bible and saw it was talking about ME!!

Here is the proverb I read:
"One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys."

Ouch!

The dictionary (sorry, I'm a word geek) says that SLACK means:

slow or sluggish...
characterized by lack of work or activity...
showing laziness or negligence...
remiss, careless, slapdash, casual, sloppy.

And DESTROY means:

put an end to the existence of...
completely ruin or spoil...
knock down, wreck, ruin, shatter.

This is hard on the ol' ego to admit... it is!!

I had my first of the month weigh in yesterday. It was a real bear!

I was 338, UP two pounds. Yes, I had a calorie deficit, BUT I got lazy with my exercise.

I was not CONSISTENT. I was a... slacker.

I've got to be honest with myself, otherwise I'll just keep making the same dumb choices and then "innocently" wonder why I'm not losing.

What excuses did I tell myself that made this okay??

The worst excuse was that the last challenge was sooo long (oh poor me!) so I was going to take a "little" break before the next one started. Uh huh... right. Famous last words!!

Also, that it wouldn't make that much difference anyway. I can't exercise with THAT much intensity yet, so it doesn't burn very many calories anyway... uh huh. Suurrre.

Well, I need a real kick in the pants! Anybody got a dollar??

How, oh how, did I fall for those excuses??? I KNOW better. Well, I THOUGHT I knew better. Apparently not, cuz I listened to all my own lame excuses.

I DO know better, really. I just chose not to DO better.

So it's back to aiming for Consistency.

I re-read a post by Sean Anderson, from Daily Diary of a Winning Loser. He has been the poster boy for Consistency, and I needed a refresher course!

Consistency is the key, is the bottomline message of his post. I'm done being a Slacker.

I'm tired of going in circles on this consistency thing.

I'm tired of see-sawing back and forth with it.

Time to get serious!

I'm not waiting for the next challenge to start... this is supposed to be a way of life! My Summer Smackdown attitude starts NOW!

From Dr Phil's book: "Just do it... again and again and again."

My verse for today:  "Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp."

My quote for today: "Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even." --Muhammad Ali

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Love that quote by Muhammad Ali! It is so true. Some feelings one never wants to experience again.

So sorry about the gain! Hopefully, it promises a huge loss for next month. Hang in there, WLW, you got this. You do!

I'm looking forward to seeing your goals on Monday. :D We're gonna let freedom ring!

I love the doctor phil quote.
That is the heart of weight loss.
Eat less, move more...and then do it again and again and again and again....
Good post.

There is always exercise that defies the excuses. Until it becomes something you want to do and enjoy, I'd go with no excuses. I had to do that for myself. Pick stuff you like and enjoy. It makes it easier to stick. Honest.

You have to find a way to enjoy it so that you want to do it. Granted, I really have to talk myself into it sometimes.

I think it all comes down to "tude's" also. Attitude and fortitude. You need both to make good choices and recognize the bad ones for what they are.

I am adopting your "Summer Smackdown" attitude as well! It sounds good and for the first time ever I am not hiding in my house away from the summer sun!

You will shed that gain soon Retta!

I understand all about getting lax with the exercise. When I first started it was the food that was so blindingly hard, and now the food is habit and the movement? CHORE. I need to break out of that mindset!

love your comment on my blog that you are going to "Focus on consistency"..Do what you gotta do, build your self back up with the exercise-even if you just add 5 minutes a session. Just do it! I play that Nike /Dr. Phil statement in my head over and over, just do it, just do it..

RUBY: I like that... Tudes! LOL!
Feel free to grab a copy of the Attitude Badge for the Summer Smackdown if that'll help you remember. I tend to get sidetracked, so like to have it waved in my face every day. ;-)

The mind can certainly help us out with making our excuses seem like they are valid.

Good for you for moving beyond that!

SMACKDOWN it is!!! Go Loretta!

I'm sorry to hear about the gain. You seem to have checked yourself already, so I'll just tell you that I know you're going to kick butt!!! Regardless of what the scale says, I KNOW you have improved your health so much since you started this journey. Keep moving forward, Retta! You have the power inside you. :)

It always seems harder, for me at least, to get back to business if I take a break.
