DAY 511 Finding the Determination of a Cat

Hi Journal & Friends!

Included on my new Checklist is a daily leg stretching routine. Due to several reasons, my legs, at the hips and knees, don't straighten out all the way. I had a physical therapist tell me that with persistance, there is the possibility of getting them straighter. It's hard to walk when you are crinked over like a pretzel! So I am motivated... but I think I had doubts, and some of that old "what's the use" mentality.

So, I have included a daily stretching routine this year! My mini-goal is that at the end of 2011, I be looking back at the year, excited at how Limber I have become. :-)

Yesterday I was standing at the side of my bed and when I leaned over onto it to start my stretches... the bed made a muffled "Mmmmpht!"  And then, under the electric blanket, a lump moved. I pulled back the corner of the blanket, and a sleepy black and white face popped up!

Vevie (rhymes with Stevie) had decided she was chilly, and somehow managed to crawl up under the blankets. No wonder I hadn't seen her all afternoon... she had been snug as a bug in a rug!

Moral of story: where there is a will, there is a way (or as Les Brown says, Shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you'll land among the stars).

From Dr Phil's book: "Having specific, carefully mapped out, vividly envisioned goals is an absolute requirement for success."

My verse for today: "...let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield."

My quote for today: "By God's grace, and my will..." --Mother Teresa

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Stretching and limbering up is on the top of my health list this year too. My mother in law is such an inspiration to me, in so many ways, but when it comes to her health she is as fierce as a tiger! She has a problem she deals with it! Every morning she does stretches for her back, shoulder, tummy and chest. Can you believe that she had a pace maker put in for a problem that some simple stretches could have relieved??? She just kept on and on until she found someone who had the right answer! Awesome! I am going to be like that with my health now. That's why on the top of my list is stretching, it helps so many things balance out in the body that we don't even realize.

Love your furbaby!!

Hi Retta,

I'm fairly new to reading your blog and just want to say how much I love your attitude and the uplifting verses and quotes. I look forward to getting to know you this year.

Vevie looks like my kitty, Flower, except mine has a splash of white on her nose.

Here's to being limber :)

You'll get there and be ever so limber by the end of 2011. Cute cat. And looking at your ticker... you're almost half-way there! Woohoo! Vee at http://veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com

Vevie is so cute. Hey Loretta, kick those self-doubts to the curb . The stretching routine will really help you. You won't see instant results but over time, WOW. I'm going to try Tai Chi, as Cinner suggest, my in-laws (in their 70's) are into it and they are healthier than me I think.

How cute that cool kitteh is.
And you - stretching is good for ya!
No matter what the angle of the bend!
Ever since my heat injury this last summer,
78- 80% of my work out is just stretching.
That and walking.

Your pt is right!!! Keep stretching- as much as it hurts now, it will feel better later, promise. I HATE stretching and yoga for this very reason (it hurts!), but I force myself to keep going, and I'm surprised at the progress I've made. You can do it beautiful!!!

Seems like a very doable goal. Sounds a bit like yoga, which I find therapeutic on many levels. I can say, yoga / stretching took decades off my age. I feel so much younger getting that flexibility back.

ps, my computer woes are fixed with a new pc. :D
