DAY 228 Being Thankful & Honest Scrap Part 5

DAY 228 Honest Scrap Part 5

Today was a tough morning. I woke up in a lot of back pain, and with a lousy attitude. I had to "thank around the world and back" to reign in that attitude! By the time I got to "I'm thankful I wasn't born in poverty in India..." I started to get some perspective. Sigh. Some mornings I actually have to practice what I preach... ha ha ha.

Yesterday I was thinking about childhood memories, some not so happy... I'm glad for today's topic, I need a good dose of happy!

Today I choose to focus on those wonderful memories I have from growing up.

So, here is another installment for the Honest Scrap Award, given to me by  Chris, at a Deliberate Life,  and Karen, at Fitness: A Journey Not a Destination.

The Ten Best List, Part 5:

5. Best Return to Childhood Moment:
When I was around 9 years old, we went on "The Big Trip." My Mom packed us three younger kid (me, my sister, and my brother) into our old black and white station wagon, and off we went.
We camped along the way, learning to put up our new tent the first night in the dark. We spent a couple of weeks siteseeing about 5 states, and visiting relatives. Here are some of my favorites that I remember to this day:
The Painted Desert in Arizona

The Petrified Forest

The Grand Canyon

 Arizona ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings

 A Native-American pow wow

A prairie dog town

And there were donkey rides, lightening storms, Yosemite Park, Old Faithful, aunts and uncles, my first visit to a real outhouse... on and on.

My favorite, though, was Carlsbad Caverns, in New Mexico.

At that young age I was unaware of my Cherokee heritage, or would have appreciated more of The Big Trip.
But I have so many wonderful memories from the The Big Trip! I could fill several blog posts... so I'd better stop now. ;-)

From Dr Phil's book: "Are your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes moving you closer to what you want?"

My verse for today: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

My quote for today: "You're in pretty good shape for the shape you are in." Theodore Geisel (Dr Seuss)

Wow! Those photos are incredible... Would you mind if I saved them to my PC and emailed them to a few friends of mine? (I'll credit your blog!)

Awesome pics....Love the caverns.
We have a whole prairie dog colony over here near my house.
When I walk they come out and chitter at me.
Hope your back feels better soon.

That sounds like a totally incredible trip and what a wonderful memory to have for life. It's so cool you remember so much about it. I can't remember hardly any of my childhood, but what I remember was fabulous! :)

what a fun trip!
I need to remember to do that, thank around the world, because I'm definitely thankful not to have been born in Africa where they circumsize women!!!!!!! (I just got a flyer in the mail from EQUALITY NOW! and wow its just so so sad)
Anyway, your trip sounds like so much fun! I went on a trip like that with my grandparents when I was 9. It was traveling by car across the states to go to a family reunion from Calif to Kansas. It was fun, and the funnest part is that my dad was not with us :-( But it was pretty darn great, and I will never forget it.
I wish I could take my kids on a trip like that!

Thank you for reading my blog and for the advice! Yes, I am a TOPS member and to be honest, my chapter is mostly an old lady social club. Most of the people there don't seem very serious about getting healthy. However, there are contests (locally and statewide) and I am SO completitive that it helps me. I want to be a winner! ;)

What an awesome trip! I've never seen any of those things and would love to.

My back is hurting, too, but it's hormones, me thinks. Cursed things!
