DAY 233 Goodbye

Hello Journal & Friends,

We said goodbye to Dusty today.

Last night she changed her sleeping habit. She always spent the night in her own little kitty bed, while Butterfly slept in bed with me. Last night, they switched. For the first time in probably 12 years, Dusty slept all night with me. Another gift.

The sky cried today, and it rained and sleeted all morning, until just before we had to leave for the vet's office this afternoon. Then it cleared up and the sun came out. Another gift.

Dusty was so gentle, sweet and quiet. I think she would smile at her "coffin". Jim found a box that was the perfect size... a Harley-Davidson  shoe box! On the side it says: Step into a legend. That's Dusty... a legend. I think she would find it amusing. Even in hard times, there is sometimes that quirky, funny side to life, ya know?

To the left of the box, out by the fence in the backyard that she enjoyed watching, is the place where we are putting her, in her Harley box.

Goodbye, Dust-o-rama, it's been a joy having you own me these last 16 years.

Loretta

I wont be blogging for a few days, but I wanted to stop by and say howdy and to let you know you were in my thoughts today.
God bless.

Hugs. I love that little picture and note from Dusty.

It reminded me of my sweet Indy dog. This song was popular at the time she was dying from heart failure. It played on the radio as I rushed her to the vet because she was obviously getting worse but not realizing she was going to die. She sat on the back seat with her head on my shoulder and this song played. It also played on the radio just as she passed a few hours later. I knew I was being comforted from above, and that she was going to heaven and being released from the illness and pain she was suffering with. I looked up the song because I couldn't remember the group. I wanted to share some of the sentiments.

What an honor to have 16 years with your loving pet.

"Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys

Save me from this prison
Lord help me get away
Cause only you can save me now
From this misery
Cause I've been lost in my own place
And I'm getting' weary
How far is heaven
And I know I need to change
My ways of livin'
How far is heaven, Lord can you tell me

Cause I've been locked up way too long
In this crazy world, how far is heaven
I just keep on prayin' Lord
Just keep on livin', how far is heaven
Lord can you tell me, how far is heaven
I just got to know how far, how far is heaven
Lord can you tell me

Tu que estas en alto cielo,
Echame tu bendiciòn
[translated from Spanish]
[You that's in a higher place
Send me down a blessing]

Cause I know there's a better place
Than this place I'm livin', how far is heaven
So I just got to show some faith
And just keep on giving, how far is heaven
Lord can you tell me, how far is heaven
I just wanna know how far, how far is heaven,
Lord can you tell me, how far is heaven,
'cause I just gotta know how far,
I just wanna know far

I'm sure today was very hard. Sixteen years is a very long time. It sounds like you were a very good mommy to Dusty.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Retta. Dusty is most likely still around you for a little while. When my cat Tigger died, I woke up one day from a nap and felt a cat jump up on the couch next to me, I thought it was one of my other cats so I just reached over and petted him. Then I turned to look at who I was petting and it was Tigger. I blinked, and he was gone. For a long time, I still felt Tigger was there. When my dog Teddy had to be put to sleep, same thing. I dreamed he was smiling and happy. I know their little souls stay with us to comfort us for a long time.
Rest in Peace little Dusty!

Awww, sweet Dusty. I hope you are doing okay...that was a beautiful post.

I just had to have my cat, Goober, put to sleep 4 months ago. I had him for 15 years, and I still miss him. No matter what was going on, he was my constant little companion.

It looks like Dusty has a beautiful resting place, where you'll be able to "visit" with him often.

((hugs))

Oh my gosh, how did I miss this! I'm so very sorry about Dusty. I just read the post and it brought back flood of emotions of pets I've lost over the years. Lots of cats and a few dogs.

I truly believe they'll all be waiting for us on the other side. Their really just little humans in fur coats. :)

Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you.
