FEB 18th Bacon, Gettin' Fat & The Truth

Howdy Journal & Friends,

Have you seen this chart going around the interwebs?? "Fats Don't Make Us Fat, Carbs Do." (link)

It's so clear and to the point... loved it! If you are still looking for a good nutritional plan, or are struggling on the one you currently use, do yourself a favor and check it out.

I first read about the chart in a newsletter from Dr Mercola. His topic was "Pasta, Not Bacon, Makes You Fat. But How?" (link here).

I buy natural bacon made without all the gunk, like nitrates and nitrites. Yep, it's more expensive. But I no longer sit and eat a whole package at a sitting, either, like in the "bad old days."

Yay bacon!

My book quote for today: "I've observed that all lasting change is preceded by changed thinking. Any other type of change will be only temporary. The place to begin, then, is with your thought life, with a revival of your mind." --Tommy Newberry, The 4:8 Principle

My verse for today: "A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions."

My quote for today: "Change your thoughts and you change your world." --Norman Vincent Peale

Enjoy the Journey,

I bought a mini bar of Vosages Dark chocolate with Bacon and Alderwood salt around the holidays at Whole Foods partly to try it because I kept hearing about Vosages chocolate being the favorite of the "stars". And then I was embarrassed and was going to give it as a gag gift. But somehow it turned out that I shared it with my friend and her dad who was in Hospice as part of a giggly night with whiskey soaked egg nog. The whole bar was 70 calories. It was such an experience to share it that way and it turned out to be a very delicate and gourmet treat. Bacon and chocolate, who knew?

I had bacon for breakfast ..... most unusual for me but we did go out to a restaurant. I was craving bacon and tomatoes and I can honestly say I got my fix.

It's so nice being wheat free. No guilt at all when I indulge and I do like bacon, like you I prefer the better quality but that's a rare treat.

I've just realised I've had bacon for breakfast twice the last few weeks, once t my brother's house and again today.

It's not likely to become a trend and definitely I will not go the chocolate and bacon combo although come to think of it I did finish my meal with a chocolate drink.*smile*

Blessings

Of course! It's the easy foods we love that amp up the fattitude - heh. But really, I've always heard eat fat to lose fat... but ya gotta choose healthy fats. So I'm still wary of bacon and red meat, but I do love me some avocado and fish. :)

I love bacon! Who doesn't? There is a problem with this for some, however. If you have any kind of kidney damage, as I do, eating a lot of protein is not the way to go. I did Atkins for two weeks a couple years ago and was soooooo tired by the end. Yes, I lost, but it just wasn't the best thing for me. My kidneys work at 53% only. I just have to keep my mind on portion control and eating whole wheat whenever possible.

Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!

I love me some bacon! I think you are right about getting better faster because I don't eat sugar...I am almost better already...I think I can even make it to work tomorrow.

Yummy bacon! I get organic turkey bacon without nitrates, etc... Good stuff. I recently started using more olive oil as I'd read how it's good for our bones.

I like bacon..I eat turkey bacon..If I am going to ingest fat I try to eat it as nuts or with olives or avocado. I don't think anything should be off the table really...somethings should be limited...mostly white flour and white sugar...there is not reason for either of those...they contain no real vitamins or minerals or fiber or really any nutrition whatsoever...whole grains are much better.

BACON of course!

I've been gluten, wheat, flour and dairy free for 5 months ... the weight is coming off steady ... but more important ... I have my health back. But it's a lifestyle change, not a diet. Turns out I'm rather intolerant.
Glad to hear you're keeping your portions under control. Moderation for most people is key.

How great that you are regaining your health! It's amazing how much WHAT we eat has to do with it, not just how much. And portion control is the one thing I still am working on. Yep, moderation. Not in all things ( a moderate amount of arsenic will still kill ya) but in the healthy things. That's what I'm working on. :-)
