FEB 8 Marinated Brains

Good Evening Journal & Friends,

I looove my George Foreman grill.

And one of my favorite concoctions is to throw a bunch of sliced fresh veggies into a baggie, add some wet smooshie stuff (like Italian salad dressing), and let it marinate while I do other stuff. Later, I grill those babies for a few minutes, and Wowzer! It's great. And it was the marinating process that made the change in flavor.

So last week, when Dayne at Coach Your Mind, used the idea of marinating our brains... it caught my imagination.

Coach Dayne talked about the value of soaking our brains as we go to sleep. Marinating them in good thoughts, if you will. The concept stems from the truth that:

What we think ultimately
creates who we become!

He explains how he learned the importance of going to sleep thinking healthy thoughts. And how our unconscious mind takes over during sleep, and the importance of what we tell it right before we fall asleep. (Highly recommend the whole post, HERE)

So, I decided to create my own version of a night time mantra in which to marinate my brain. I tell this one to myself right as I go to sleep:

What I believe, think, say and do
creates my future.

Why that one? First off, I wasn't sure it would really do anything! But I was surprised to discover that often when I woke up in the morning, I remembered it.

Second, I made up my own because it had to be something from within ME, something I wouldn't resist, that I could totally embrace. And I put the words in that specific order, on purpose.

I wanted my first word to be BELIEVE. For me, it had to be the foundation upon which all the other stuff was built. Oh.. I've done the "name it and claim it" stuff... the "fake it til you make it" stuff. There is a time for that. You can't just sit around introspective and do nothing until you Get It. You've got to take action.
But I put BELIEVE first because I wanted everything after that to be powerful... to come from a place of knowing, of being. From knowing deep in my heart, it's true. Not hoping, wishing, or trying. See the difference?
Example:
A guy is an expert high-wire walker. World famous. So, he strings his tightrope across Niagra Falls, ready to perform his amazing act.
He turns to you, in the audience, and asks: Do you believe I can do this??

Yes, you reply, with an encouraging smile, all ready to be entertained.

Okay then, he answers... climb onto my back!

Ahhh... now you find out if you really BELIEVE he can do it, or if you just HOPE he can do it.

So, that's what I've been mulling over for a few days. What do I REALLY believe

That I will be successful losing this weight... yes. Totally.

How long will it take me? I honestly can't answer that. I'd love to say in X number of months. But that would be "saying" it, not believing it. Eventually, I'm sure I'll be to that point of setting a goal from the Believing place... but right now, so far, I simply know I WILL get there. :-)

From Dr Phil's book: "Successful people do what unsuccessful people won't... you don't have to like them; you just have to do them."

My verse for today: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped."

My quote for today: "So many people say, 'I'd like to do this, I'd like to do that.' The mind should control the body. When you move your fingers, when you move your toes, that's done by the mind." --Jack LaLanne

Enjoy the Journey,

Great post, Loretta. I also love my George Foreman grill. It's quick and easy to clean. The veggies are such a great idea! Also, marinating the brain is worth a try. I will create my mantra tonight!

whoops..errors.
lol.
yes, good post.
I never stopped to wonder too much.
I knew if I did abc and d I would do it.
So in my case I STOPPED thinking of whether or not it was a possibility and simply stated that it was.
You can do it. This I know.

I would climb on your back.
I know you can do it.

Yes I totally believe you will do this. However...you have already lost 121lb which to me is unbelievably inspiring. You have done it, you will do it some more.

Hmmmm. I'll think on this one and see what I can come up with.

Wait. Maybe this: "I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me. All things includes staying on plan."

:D That might be it.

I saw a video while I was in school about people who had more than just a few pounds to lose. Seems that a lot of them would get half way there and hit a point that was more of a challenge than the beginning. In the beginning you have that fire to lose weight. Then, as time goes on and you've lost a substantial part of it, you hit the "half-way hump". A place that challenges you all over again. Not physically, but emotionally. Because the weight loss slows down, even though you're still losing, it's harder to fan the fire. Apparently, this is the decision point. Are you going to keep going? Or give up? Well... I for one, want to keep going and I know that you are determined to continue.
If the mantra works, fantastic! I was always partial to the old favorite: "The battle is won or lost between the ears!"

I love the thought of marinating our brains. I had a quote on my bedroom wall for a while that said something like "Marinate in the solutions to my problems" which was opposite of what I was doing... I was always focussing on the problems themselves.

But I love the idea of suggesting thoughts to ourselves as we fall asleep as our thoughts are SO powerful. And what we believe we give power to. That's why I named my blog like I did... I know I need to believe it this time. That's why it's so dangerous to believe negative or bad things because it's give power to bringing it to pass. No thanks. I want to give my belief and power to the truth and positive.

Thanks for another wonderful post, m'dear!!

That's interesting because I've been listening to Christian music more often and I've noticed that when I wake up--one of the songs is usually going through my head! I also love the George Foreman Grill.

Hope and Believe, they are as different as black and white.

George Foreman, I like it too but I have found they don't last but a year or two and then they lose the ability to heat evenly across the surface. Room for improvement, I believe George can fix it.

Is the Forman grill easy to clean? Maybe i should get one. But I'm all about easy. If it's a pain, I won't use it. lol Just like I don't really use my other indoor grill much.

You know there is truth in what you're talking about. I use a version of it adopted from marriage counseling before we got married [required by the Catholic Church]. This couple talked about their problems and said they started waking up each day telling themselves, "i want to be married. I love Dave. We're going to be great today." They said it went a long way and changed their attitudes in the long run.

I adopted a version of that and begin my day with positive thoughts. At first it was just words, but by saying it first thing you start to change the tone of the day and eventually a whole attitude.

Yes! I like this idea of marinating my brain. I have been trying to deal with all these negative thoughts and my internal dialogue that seems to discourage me. I also like that you gave me a new idea for marinating the veggies! Will be trying both of these new marinades!

forgot to ask this,,,how did you install your weight loss ticker? I went to the ticker website and copied the one I wanted but when I tried to paste it in my blog, I couldn't figure out where to put it. Can you help with this?

Loretta, BELIEVE! YES! If we do not really believe we can do this... BELIEVE we can do anything , we will not succeed. I believe you can do this, you are committed , you are determined. Keep going! We BELIEVE in you!
Have a pretty day!

I believe you will, Loretta... can I climb on your back? Kidding aside, your positive attitude (ie. belief) in your ultimate success is a huge force toward my ultimate success too... it rubs off somehow.

Thanks for the grill suggestion and the metaphor about marinating our brains. Love it!
