DAY 296 Surviving Monthly Weigh Day

Hi Journal & Friends,

Just to let you know... if you breathe deeply and hold your breath, ya don't weigh less.

Today was my Monthly weigh-in. The verdict? 336, which means I lost a grand total of TWO pounds for the whole month of May. Need I say more??!!

I think my big experiment was a bust. The only thing I did differently--which I struggled with--was to switch these last two weeks from 1500 calories per day, to the variable count. At the end of the week they added up to approximately the same calories. BUT, I really struggled with the variable approach.

I discovered I am one who LIKES predictability. I like routine. I did NOT like continually getting mixed up and forgetting which day I was on, the up calorie day or the down calorie day. It was frustrating and not relaxing, and I didn't enjoy it at all! I found myself trying to make up for my goof-ups by compensating the next day... which made that day too short, which was frustrating and in the end... it just didn't work.

I think it's a good plan for later, because it kind of fits real life. But for NOW, I guess I am like a 10 year old who has been handed a credit card... I am just not ready for it.

I am going back to what worked. I was doing well at 1600 calories per day, so that is what I am returning to... live and learn, huh?!

From Dr Phil's book: "When conflict arises... don't panic and seek solace in food. I have the power to choose."

My verse for today: "You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word."

My quote for today: "Each day is a journey, and the journey itself home." --Haiku by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694)

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Well, I feel your pain, that's for sure. As you saw, the most I could get excited about with my own weigh-in was that I was going in the right direction.

You know, tho, Lorretta--it may not be as bad as it looks. You had a HUGE loss from being sick last month. some of that had to be weight that would rebound--like needed fluid.

Sooooo. You may have lost fat that isn't showing cause you regained some juice. :) I'm guessing 3 pounds of juice. That means you lost FIVE pounds of fat for May. :D

Love the pictures. hahaha. The dog would have been the hands-down winner, except for the look on that cat! Love, love, love it! It's as good as my grumpy bluebird. :D

By the way, I may not be online as much. I have a writing assignment and am up against a deadline. Hahahahaha! I've always wanted to say that! :D Actually, the article is not due til Monday, but I'm not a pro, so I need more time than the average bear. I just didn't want you to worry.

Later, WLW,

Deb

your "bursting with joy" cat is hysterical, me and my daughter are rolling around laughing over that cat! Ha ha

Oh well, 2 lbs is 2 lbs. I say go with it, and go back to the tried and true.

I could say all the cliches--you know half the time it's me with no loss but I know it still frustrates.. I know. One really good thing to do when the pounds just ain't dropping and you are feeling frustrated is to go back over the last month and count up all the success you've had. I'm sure there are more than 2 pounds worth.

Hey...live and learn, I always say. A loss is a loss, even when it's not as much as we want. It seems to me you're doing great, Loretta. And I love Deb's calculations!

less is less. You're moving in the right direction.

Experimenting is good for the process. We learn a lot about ourselves and more about how to handle all of this. That knowledge has lots of value to you. :D

Well, I'm sorry. I know how disappointing it is...and I'm really proud and impressed that you aren't on a binge. I probably would be.
The pounds will start dropping faster again...that we know. Two pounds gone is still in the right direction. I don't know if it helps, but I'm right there with you. Don't give up (and I know you won't).

Well, you tried it! I'm proud of you for that. That's what this all is: trial and error. Every BODY is different, and now you know more about yours.

You have healthy habits, and that is something to be so proud of! It's easy to get stuck on the scale numbers, but try to remember that's just one measure of how much you've improved your life. I know you're working hard, and you're doing great. Focus on the good stuff.

The cat pic is hilarious.

I'm sorry that it didn't work for you. But now you know for certain what does and you can go back to it.

2 pounds in a month isn't huge, but you lost. And that is a good thing. :D

Congratulations on the loss. It is great when we realize that something didn't work out so great for us and we move right back onto something that does.

WEll, I have to say...May was crap for a lot of people.

May was crap for me too, although I was sooo good at staying within my calorie and carb limits!

Onward and Downward, June will be MUCH better.

Two pounds lost is still two pounds LOST! May was not a great month for me either. My problem was that I didn't work at it at all. I let exercise slide and there were a few major eating occasions that I did not curb.

Food and celebration go together in my warped mind. If the occasion is happy-EAT. If it is a sad occasion-EAT.

What can I say?

We'll both do better next month. Go back to what worked for you...that is a good idea.

Now I should just get back to what worked for me!
