DAY 87 Feeling It.... or Not

Howdy there Journal,

Today I am not "feeling it". I still ache from yesterdays trick knee performance... I am tired... I just don't feel it emotionally. But even as I am tempted to sit here and throw a gigantic pity-party, I know I have a choice. Even if I have to cry as I say it, I will still say it: I will never quit. I will never give up. Even if I am sobbing, I will hold on and not let go of my determination.

For I have learned ONE THING:

 REACHING MY GOALS HAS ABSOLUTELY
NOTHING TO DO WITH "FEELINGS".

Sure, they are super duper nice when they are all chirpy and cheerful. It's fun then, and energized and you just feel like you can do ANYTHING.

But guess what?? Even if you DON'T feel like you can do anything, you STILL CAN DO ANYTHING!! Isn't that something!!? The feelings are like a fun bonus. I sure appreciate them when they are floating around me like glitter in the sunshine... all sparkly and pretty.

But they aren't NECESSARY to my progress. Some days are just harder than others. Or, if I were to put it more optimistically, some days are easier than others. ;-)

So today, since I don't have anything chirpy to say, I will borrow my inspiration from some of my favorite quotes... ones that bounce around inside me, and feel like they are just for me:

"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination."--Jimmy Dean

"I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning how to sail my ship."--Louisa May Alcott

"For myself I am an optimist--it does not seem to be much use being anything else."--Winston Churchill

And this next one made me cry, and sit up taller and DARE any feelings to try to stop me:

"Throw back the shoulders, let the heart sing, let the eyes flash, let the mind be lifted up, look upward and say to yourself... nothing is impossible!" --Norman Vincent Peale

Here's another one for you, if you are not feeling it:

From Dr Phil's book: "Never tell yourself beforehand that something is impossible, nor set limits on your efforts."

My verse for today: "Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God."

My quote for today: "If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come." --Chinese proverb

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

I am so glad to hear you say you will hang in there anyway. You are very right. Emotional commitment is just that, an emotion. When the winds come, it gets blown away. You have something more than that. You have a solid determination to be. Isn't that like the seeds that were planted in the good soil? It grew to be a great tree where all the birds rested in it's branches. A tree doesn't grow tall on emotion. It grows by being feed good food. And you are doing that so you can sustain yourself on the lean days. Good job!

Atta girl, Loretta! This journey to thin is definitely not for the fainthearted, is it? I have a Scripture for you:

We pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy... Col 1:11 :D

May you be filled with joy!

Deb

Yes its hard to be positive sometimes and all cheerful. Actually on difficult days I find myself growling at the never ending optimists of the world and thinking, stick a sock in it, peppy! LOL But I know you are right, feelings have nothing to do with goals, that is so true.
No matter how bad I feel today, its what I do, not what I feel that matters. And if I do the right thing....I will feel better.

KAREN: Thank you. Quitting is not an option... I was at a blog tonight (I forget which one!) and read the phrase "a feeling does not constitute an emergency." I had to laugh, and agree. :-)

DEB: I like that verse! Thank you very much, Deb, I appreciate that.

NANCY: Oooh, that's a good one: "it's what I do, not what I feel that matters."

BIG MUMMY: Thanks for the encouraging words. Yes, it's good to focus on the positive. I guess my progress has been so slow that I forget to really appreciate that I HAVE lost a bit of weight so far. Thanks, I needed that reminder!

I am amazed at how often a post appears at just the perfect time! I narrowly survived last night without indulging too much before bed. Your opening quote is such a perfect description of how I was feeling! I am so proud/relieved this morning that I acted the way I did, in spite of how I was feeling.

Hi Beth,
That happens to me, too, stumbling upon just the right thing at the time I need it! And it always amazes me, too. You made the right choices, in spite of "feelings". It is easy to say, but not always easy to DO... but you did. Great job!
