DAY 237 Spring Challenge - Week 2 Update

Hi Journal & Friends,

Can you believe it's already two whole weeks into the Spring Challenge?

Here is a Summary of the Spring Challenge... while it's too late to be eligible for the prize drawing at the end, anyone is welcome to join anytime, if you would like a boost to your journey. The challenge helps me focus, to have clearly defined mini-goals,  offers accountability that gives me that extra oomph needed at times to DO what I need to do, even when I don't wanna!

Spring Challenge Warriors: go ahead and put the link to your weekly update, whatever day you chose, here in Saturday's comment section, so we can be together and find one another.

Okay, on to my check-in...

My Spring Challenge goals:

1. Every day for the next 13 weeks, do some kind of Exercise.
2. Every day for the next 13 weeks, drink a Greenie.
3. Check in every Saturday.
4. Tell one thing each week that I like about myself.
5. Save up to buy myself a fun Reward at the end.

HOW I DID...

My Exercise:
Went a lot smoother this week, with the exception of the day we said goodbye to Dusty. I just pooped out on that day. So, I accomplished 6 days out of 7.

My Greenies:
I am actually getting used to having a green smoothie every day! I've made them with frozen blueberries, or frozen strawberries, and sometimes I add a small piece of frozen banana. I've even gotten brave and made one with zucchini in it! I make them thick, like frozen yogurt desserts, and eat it with a spoon. They're pretty good.

One Thing I Like About Myself:

I LOVE COLOR !

Bright color, soft color, pastel color, primary color... any color! I just don't get people who always wear black. Black makes a wonderful accent, and it's depth and strength sets off colors like the setting does for a jewel. But give me color!

I've let my weight keep me from wearing bright, funky and wild color and designs for so long. I was self-conscious, and didn't want to draw attention to myself. Well, plus most of the really great, artsy clothing didn't fit me.

A couple of years ago I thought I would "be myself", and I put on a bright pink knit dress, with a soft pink overshirt. I wore the tennies that I had painted pink, and my pink earrings. I felt pretty spiffy!

I  went into a store, and was thoroughly enjoying myself. Until... this man suddenly stopped in his tracks, staring at me. Then he kind of stuttered... "Oh.... that's... uh... PINK!" He lamely smiled and quickly walked away, leaving me totally embarrassed and back to feeling self-conscious.

I want to be free of that... to be free to be ME. To live out loud, and bright, and bold and COLORFUL. I don't want to wait til I get to my weight loss goal to do it, either. I want that NOW.

Fun stuff I would wear:

What that man in that store didn't know was... I thought that outfit to be awfully conservative!!!

From Dr Phil's book: "Get up each morning, look at yourself in the mirror, and see yourself... as the someone you will become, a person with a greater level of dignity and worth who, for probably the first time ever, is finally going to succeed--for a lifetime."

My verse for today: "My soul finds rest in God alone."

My quote for today: "Color is a power which directly influences the soul." --Wassily Kandinsky

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Funny that you posted about pink...I have a pink dress (very pink!) that I thought about wearing to church tomorrow. However, the last time I wore it, I felt very...........noticable. :)

Good job on a successful week!

i love color too but am not a super wild dresser, am pretty conservative, always have been. i like black, ha ha! ..the reason, for me,its easy and requires no thought so i can work on the things that do require thought.

That guy was stupid, he should not have reacted that way, but you know people react badly to my dress too sometimes, especially the frosted moms who notice i am not inleather and high heels!

I love color too. I work with a bunch of software developers (mostly guys or girls that dress like guys). They mostly wear shades of brown, black, gray or blue.

I wear bright colors a lot. Last week I wore a brillant reddish/orange shirt. I love this shirt. It fits perfectly and the color is good on me. It's definitely bright. One guy looked at me and said, in a sort of disgusted voice, "what color is that? Red or orange?" I told him it was reddish/orange and what did it matter??? Annoyed he hell out of me. I could tell he didn't like it.

Later I thought, well, I didn't exactly like his gray sweatshirt, but I'd never say, 'what color is that, gray?!".

It's so silly how other people's opinions have such an impact on us. It shouldn't matter what they think.

Although when we're overweight we think it does matter, like they're making fun of our weight and not our love of color. But you know what, that guy would probably have said he same thing even if you had been super skinny. He obviously didn't like pink. Obviously, the guy is an idiot. :)

I lurves pink!

Something that helped me get over being self-conscious and letting things roll off my back easier - whatever they say usually has more to do with their issues than you. If you think about it, it's true. And if you ignore that one man, was the rest of the experience positive? Until that point you were happy. Why should one point of negativity have that affect? It's only one.

Anyway, with that said, onto reporting in:

My goals:

1. be more consistent about water [one of my weaknesses]
2. do a lighter, shorter routine on my light exercise days - like Core Rhythms
3. keep fighting and keeping positive [despite the rejection-love]
4. begin applying things I learn about self-marketing

1. I am back to old habits already. Bad me. Since I am going out in a bit, I will not be remedying that until I return home.

2. Not doing well here either. Not only did I not do light workouts, I was unable to do my regular workotus. I somehow hurt my back last Thursday and have been smarting since. I tried a workout on Wednesday and was really, really sorry. Husband: Why do you insist on being stupid? It's not going to kill you to let the back heal. It might kill you if you don't. ME: just blushes. There are some things I don't seem to learn very well. I did get some exercise with walks, etc ... which made my back sore. Siiigh.

3. I am reframing my dread of editing novel#1. It's not a horrid chore. It's fun. It's fun. Its' fun. I should be excited.

4. I keep networking. Seems other writers are more clueless than me on this stuff. I almost feel like a social butterfly. LOL Most writers are introverts. I've always been borderline, so I'm a socialite in that crowd.

I signed up for those face-to-face pitches in August. Waaaay, way, waaaaaaaaay outside my comfort zone. But, I am determined to slay it. I have my outfit. I will study. I will be ready. I will practice.

Something I like about myself ... What did I say last week? The Never Surrender thing? Probably. So this week I will go with ... my creativity, that I think differently than most people. I love that I am not a conformist and insist on my own path in all things, always. For awhile I lamented that, when burdened with the big D and captial double A. But, I've come to love that about myself again. I guess a sign I'm comfortable in my own skin again. That's a really good thing.

I miss working out. When I look in the mirror, I already imagine myself as pudgier. Yeah, it's in my head. My pants fit as well as before. It's only been a couple of days and if I hurt myself worse I'll be out for the count longer.

Have you ever dyed your hair pink? When I lived in NYC, I used to bleach my hair and dye it pink on the weekends. There was this temporary dye that would wash out in time for work on Monday. It was fun. Do they still make temporary dye? I should go look. Maybe I'm too old for purple hair. Am I?

PS, love the watermelon cup. We had those when I was a kid. There were other shapes, weren't there? I don't remember what they were, but I remember the watermelon.

I love your colorful, cheerful and inspiring blog. You're doing great with your challenge - excellent! Pink is a color (esp. pale pink) that when I wear it, everybody tells me it looks good on me. Need. More. Pink.

Hey, Loretta! Here's my Spring Challenge Update for Week 2. Not as good as the first week, I'm afraid. The explanation is on my blog, but briefly, I reached all of my goals FIVE days out of the SEVEN. My two off days--were extraodrdinarily off. I do nothing halfway. :)

The one thing I like about myself: I have a keen sense of justice. (I'm not talking about justice in the legal, judging, punishing sense--as in enacticng justice. ) I loathe purposeful unfairness, bigotry, discrimination--well, injustice. Which is probably why I'm a social worker. :)

People are entitled to be treated decently and with respect--and I simmer when I see that not happening. People who send me those hate-based, fear-filled emails about... well, never mind. Let's leave it at, I like that I have a keen sense of justice. :) Deb
