DAY 67 Attitudes & Hula Hoops

Good Evening Journal,

Today started off late...since I had a rough night I didn't get up til late. When I saw the time on my little bedside clock, I instantly felt pressure and frustration. I hurried to make a phone call and delay a commitment...then I made a business call quickly before everything back east closed up for the day (I am in Oregon). And all this....gasp...before coffee!!!

Attitudes are funny things...they arrive at our door in all wrapped up in a package of circumstances, but need a signature--our permission--to be accepted and made permanent. I had signed for this package when it first arrived.

After talking to my sister, Karen, on the phone about her novel The Complex (I am having fun helping her with the editing, and needed to beg off today's installment), I "felt" better. I decided right then and there to return the package of Crummy Attitude to the sender!! It was a choice I should have made BEFORE I talked to anyone else...attitudes are contagious. I am glad Karen was immune!

At Karen's suggestion, I tried out my new exercise toy: a weighted HULA HOOP! (Here is my new toy) It was so funny...I couldn't even keep it up for one total loop-de-loop around myself! Good thing the intructions say to start out the first week doing it only 1 minute per day. I thought that was silly advice...til I tried it! It will be fun to learn, and it got me to laughing today.

What does all this have to do with weight loss: ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

I needed to remind myself that my attitude is MY CHOICE.

The mood of my day is MY CHOICE.

Circumstances can offer me a "good" reason to feel bummed...but whether or not I STAY bummed is MY CHOICE.

This is what I want to remember...I have the choice to make my own weather each day (I wrote about that here) ...and today the weather is sunny and bright, with showers of chuckling expected on and off.

From Dr Phil's book: "Become the Captain of your own behavior."

My verse for today: " I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?"

My quote for today: "Of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing."--Zig Ziglar

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Oh, good for you on the Hula Hoop! When I was in College (many many moons ago!), I 'worked out' with my trusty hula hoop for 15 minutes every morning -- and I kept a 26 inch waist.
Sadly... I stopped doing that and we won't discuss that now... :(
However, I have re-discovered the hula hoop and ordered one from this site:

Have fun and hula the weight away!

A positive outlook can not solve any problem but it helps a whole lot. Moreover I think a negative vibe can actually start a whole lot of problems.

Its odd to me how some thing, sometimes small, seems to trigger a cascade of other things... sometimes all is well in the universe and other times I just wait for the next anvil to drop out of the sky.

I've been in a funk lately. But your right that embracing the funk may not be the best way. It may not all be coming up roses but it ain't all crab grass either.

A know a gal who struggles a lot, and I really feel bad for her and try to be a friend. But she has such a permanent down spirit that can seem to just sap the life out of a room.

That sad sack world has beat me down vibe (well it may be that the world has kicked the stuffing out of her but) I think she does herself no good with it becaause it pushes people away from her and makes her even more alone.

I'm not all Norman Vincent Peale Power of Positive Thinking" here because the actual truth is just because you think you can doesn't mean in fact you can...but its also very true if you think you can't you will likely prove yourself right.

Remember old Don Quiote, that crazy old guy who thought windmills were dragons?

I think just to be safe I'm going to charge the windmill. I will likely get hurt, but it could be a dragon and I'm not going to risk missing the chance to slay a dragon... because chicks dig dragon slayers! - Alan

Hi Alan!
What a thoughtful comment...I appreciate it.
That is sad about your friend...attitudes really are contagious, and if she is determined to stay down, it definitely can affect anyone who is around her excessively...yet she needs friends! I'll bet she doesn't realize the black cloud vibe she gives off.

You know, what of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford: "Whether you believe you can, or believe you can't, either way you're right."

If I were to take that literally, I would argue with it. I mean, just because I were to believe I have the talent and dedication to be a ballerina, at 369 pounds, it ain't gonna happen! Even at 169...or 69...not at my age and health stuff.

But, if I take the SPIRIT of it... it will literally change my life. To me, it means: if I believe I cannot do a thing, then I will never even try, because I know I would just fail anyway, so why try...a self-fulfilling prophecy. BUT, if I believe I CAN, I will try... and if I am in touch with reality, and with what I believe God has put me here on earth to do, a purpose, then...I will not choose a thing that is ridiculously out of touch with reality for me...but maybe something that I didn't have the confidence to achieve before...or that I didn't make the effort before because of other things holding me back...um...like weight!

I truly believe we are all capable of SO MUCH MORE than we ever dreamed. We allow all sorts of things to hold us earthbound, when instead, we were destined TO FLY.

Why put limits on ourselves...the world does that already, without any help from us. We need to shake OFF the doubts, the restraints, the fear that keeps us timid, that keeps us "reasonable" in our goal setting and our dreaming.

I say yes, go after that dragon, slay it and anything else that gets in the way between you and your dreams!!

We can do this, and no one or no thing can stop us, unless WE allow it.

Oh, I fed your hampster too!

(And myself a bit of yogart and coffee)

I'm trying to make my own weather like you said... I'm going to start with some wonderful puffy clouds.

I had to comment again because I like your post so much. That verse too. Even when I get into a bad place I keep telling myself that "God is still in charge and in control" even when I have no clue whats going on.

OK... another lesson, don't drink two supersized coffees at 10 oclock at night.

Well it's time for our medication at Foolsfitness- Alan

I almost missed this one. Attitude isnt everything, but it is 99% and usually only 60% is needed to get a passing grade....you get an A+! (the plus is because you did it all before coffee....)

GEORGIA MIST: A 26 inch waist! Goodness, my thigh is not that small..LOL! A blog friend sent me a dvd from hoopnotica...now I just need to learn to keep the thing higher than my ankles!

NANCY: Aww, thank you...yep, without coffee it was a truly heroic effort...ha ha ha.
