DAY 418 Toon Tuesday Revisited

Hi there, Journal & Friends,

Today is a different kind of Toon Tuesday.

Just Me (from Have You Gained Weight?)  left me a very nice comment about my 2010 Theme drawing. I had posted pics of the progression of it, from rough sketch to finished piece HERE, on my other (and much neglected) art blog.

Her comment made me stop and really LOOK at it again. I read each of my key words, ones that I had personally chosen for 2010:

  • Fun
  • Passion
  • Attitude of Gratitude
  • Dare Greatly
  • Love Relationship with God
  • Determination
  • Art
  • Action
  • Good Choices
  • Joy
  • Progress Not Perfection

And last but not least...
Consistency

Ahhh... Consistency.

I really feel good about my progress on most of those words... except Consistency.

I have been consistently INconsistent in too many areas!

I've written about consistency so much, it's embarrassing. I've read on it, thought on it, meditated on it, and tried to improve on it.

Here is one post on Day 304 I found, looking for answers.

And here, way back on Day 88,  I felt that my price to pay for success at this was Consistency.

And from Day 281 comes the bottomline message: Do it anyway, whether I feel like it or not. Because Consistency is more important than perfection.

Yet I still have areas that are glaringly INconsistent! What's up with that?!

And as I have been doing those Peeks at the Past at the end of my posts now, it's been VERY helpful in showing me that the current areas that I struggle with now, are the SAME ones from a year ago!

I am still struggling to get consistent with my sleep, my exercise, my time management.

I've been mulling over what my new theme will be for 2011....maybe it should be just one word: Consistency

Not sure yet. But it sure couldn't hurt!

If you are interested in making your own Theme for 2011 and not sure where to start, last year I posted some ideas for getting started, HERE. You can take the general idea, and use your own shapes. I'm thinking that my next one might be a circle shape... maybe.

It really IS a therapuetic thing to do. Just to come up with words significant to YOU, takes tuning in to your own heart's desires, and is a very revealing exercise!

For me, I like to take my time and play with it and ENJOY it, and not be rushing at the last minute. That's why I'm starting now, before the busyness of the holidays. We typically get busy and do for everybody else... yet it is important to put effort and focus on this journey for ourself.

It won't "just happen"... we must MAKE it happen!

From Dr Phil's book: "It is you who must create the life you want. And the choice is yours to make."

My verse for today: "How priceless is your unfailing love!"

My quote for today: "If there's one thing that all people who successfully get lean and stay lean have in common, it's consistency. Without it, you never get any momentum going. It's like taking two steps forward, only to take three steps back." --Tom Venuto

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Maybe, just maybe, you are focused on different things. just a thought...You wrote: I am still struggling to get consistent with my sleep, my exercise, my time management-------me too! But I am consistent! I do something every day AND I need to give myself credit for that. It's a lifestyle change not JUST a weight change AND unfortunately...it doesn't always work in OUR time frames...Perhaps as an idea, focus more on your art...that gets you excited...I see it in your words....Address those three issues in your art...then the other may just come a little more naturally...That's what I am finding.

Consistency is something i need to work on!

This has me thinking.

There is a pattern among people, who try to lose weight, of being inconsistent.

There is a pattern of procrastination.

There is a pattern of life choices that make persistence sound like a redundant word.

That's the negative side and I think we nearly all struggle to turn these things into something more positive.

We need to change our pattern and that is never easy. I'm beginning to think that for many of us, especially those who have had weight loss issues over a lengthy period that just maybe these character attributes are of greater importance than our relationship with food.

Food is the area where we learn to develop character and that takes time. Progress may seem slow but my guess is that on a scale of 1-10 you are at least halfway better and stronger in these attributes than 12 months ago.

As I write this I'm thinking of a little word. Faith. Faith breeds consistency etc.

Do I make sense? It's the early hours and I can't sleep. *smile*

Hmmm. I'm not sure that consistency regarding getting to sleep on time or doing exercise regularly is a character issue. hmmm... Nope. I'm pretty sure it's not.

Whew.

Wow, folks who don't read comments miss out on some good stuff! You guys share so many thoughtful ideas, and really get ME to thinking.

I looked up the word Character. Interesting word (have I mentioned I like to look up words in the dictionary?) :the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

Yeah, I don't believe this journey has to do with the "moral" qualities of character. At one time I did, only because I had that pounded into my head in the past. But not any more.

Maybe rather, the "mental" side of the word is a good fit though. I definitely am working to improve my thinking, and that directly controls my choices which results in my actions.

JULES: Now that's what I love about comments... you came at it from an opposite perspective, and caused me to Blink an' Think.
I'm going to print that out, and give it more thought. There is something there for me, I can feel it. Thank you.

Thank you everyone. I have to admit, you have me addicted to comments... every morning I get my coffee, and then come in to the computer to see what people are thinking! :-D

Again, that is gorgeous, Loretta. I wish I was as talented as you. You're right, consistency is key and you must have been consistent here and there (wink-wink) because just look at your success! I really must go back and read through your whole journey. If you had just started that drawing I might just recommend adding the words "Happily Human" or something like that. Love you!

Consistency is hard to learn. It's now a habit for me, but it takes time.

Be patient. As long as it's a conscious thought, it's progress.

I like your 2010 drawing a lot. I will think about my 2011.

Hi Loretta, There are so many things in this post that have me thinking that I don't know what to say. Firstly, I had no idea you were such a wonderful artist. I love what you did. I wasn't around when you started your 2010 drawing, but I think it's great and beautiful.
I really do agree with Jules and believe that we must learn to give ourselves credit for all we do accomplish.
Thank you so much for sharing all our thoughts.

Good morning Loretta. I know I haven't stopped by in a while but I'm here this morning reading and enjoying.
You are getting there, nothing is simple and it all takes time and effort but you are doing it. You are working on it each day and that is consistency, not like you are thinking but like it is.
Keep up the great work. I so love your art. I think I'd like to work on something like that. I'll have to see your post on how to get started. I'm a beader, sewer, baker but not a drawer so it could be interesting.
Take care and keep up the great work. You're getting there my friend. God Bless!!!

Loretta thanks for dropping by with an award!! You are such an inspiration and I am so glad we are both making the best of the last 100 days. Consistency is something I too struggle with daily. Some days are great and others are horrible. It is something I truly need to work on but not something I like to work on! :)

JULIE: Hi, glad you dropped by.

Here's a simple idea:

Go around your house, find some little shapes (a drinking glass, a small box, kitchen tools, etc etc).

Get a pencil. Now Trace them onto the paper into a cluster of shapes, OVERLAPPING them a little here and there (this will add extra little shapes to decorate or put words into).

In pencil, write in the words you have chosen, here and there.

Now, DOODLE in pencil. This is freeing, since you can always erase it if you don't like it.

Just have fun with it. When it's the way you want it, go over the pencil lines with a Sharpie (black or brown, or your choice).

After adding the ink, give it a couple minutes to dry thoroughly. Then I erase any pencil lines showing, but that's not necessary.

Now you can color it with colored pencils or crayons or whatever you choose.

And ya GOTTA show us your creation, so we can ooh and ahh and enjoy it with you!

I am going to try that Loretta. I can trace things, I can put my magic words in there and I know I can color. I will share with you what I come up with. Thank you!!!
I also like this workshop you talk about today. I'm not a writer but I know two that are. My mama and my friend Kim. I will tell them about this and see if they are interested. Thanks for sharing that.
Okay, time to start my day, I'm off today...YEAH and am going shopping with my mama...YEAH!!! Been a long, long time since it's been just her and I. So cool, a perfect day.
Take care and have a blessed day.!!
