AUG 10th Unfocused

Well, I just re-read my last post (HERE) and had to ruefully laugh. I know WHAT I need to do... yet somehow seem to be drifting instead of focusing! For the past couple of days I've felt sooo tired, yet I don't think I'm sick or anything like that. Just... tired.

(to go cross eyed, click to enlarge)

Maybe I've allowed that to be an excuse for not focusing. When I feel less than 100%, it's too easy to drift, to not fight, to let it go and think "tomorrow".

Today I read a quote on Coach Dayne's blog Coach Your Mind.  It is from Michael Phelps. In case you don't follow the Olympics, he is the USA swimmer who made history by earning 22 Gold Medals over his Olympics career. He's 27 years old.

Michael said
"You can't put a limit on anything."

The title of Coach Dayne's post is "Your Choice Dictates Every Outcome". Ouch.

How many Gold Medals do you think Michael Phelps would have won if he occasionally said "Oh, I'm kinda tired. I think I'll skip training today."

Sigh... guess I'd better listen to Michael. :-}

My book quote for today:   "Every thought you have shifts your life in a particular direction, sometimes in a minor way and sometimes in a major way. Every individual thought matters."--Tommy Newberry, The 4:8 Principle

My verse for today:  "Praise the Lord, O my soul... who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle."

My quote for today: "I believe we get more of whatever it is we give our most intense focus... My focus is on being a champion of my choices everyday--owning each one and maintaining the healthy-normal boundaries that have brought me this far." --Sean Anderson, Transformation Road (website)

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

DAY 1083

I know the feeling. It's really hard to break out from.... for me at least.

It can take days to re-focus until finally the day arrives when I do something which progresses me toward my goal.

It feels like procrastination but it's not really.
It looks like lack of determination but it's not that either.
It also looks like a person with no will power but it's not that either.

One of the key steps to regaining focus is blogging as you have today.

I think you'll be up and running again tomorrow.

I wish I knew why these times come to harass us.

I think it has something to do with lost enthusiasm.

It takes energy to stir the pot.
Sometimes we are in short supply of the right kind of energy.

Take heart.
You're stirring the pot.
Keep at it and you'll be filled with get-up-and-go before you know it.

One of our difficulties is that we are in this for the long term.
Michael Phelps can now retire.
He has won his crown.
Of course he will have other goals.
He's not going to hang around and vegitate but...

While we may have a target weight
or a health goal
there is no gold and no retirement.
We can change our focus as Michael Phelps will
but we can never entirely buy out from this lifestyle to control our weigh and health.

I think we can be excused for going stale or losing focus or for finding it all too tedious on occasion.

The thing that makes us winners is that we don't stay too long in that place.

You are willing to stir the pot
And soon it will be bubbling with genuine enthusiasm once more.

It's a bit like keeping the fire burning
Just another analogy.

Sometimes it seems like more effort than it's worth
to leave the cosiness and get more fuel.
Before too long the fire is out
And you're sitting in the cold.

Hmmmm!
Does that mean we need to keep a stock of fuel ready?
And does that mean we need to keep the fire of enthusiasm well stoked
ALL the time?

No wonder we sometimes feel burnt out and call for a break.

Trouble is our health is relentless
We don't have the luxury of taking time out if we're serious.

I don't think I've written anything we don't know but it certainly makes me think. I should keep this to remind myself to keep this thing stirred-up, hot and bubbling.

May your focus sharpen and all things become clear.

Blessings.

Hi Chris! I found that youtube video of Arnolds 6 Secrets to Success. Loved it... downloaded the audio. Already listened 4 times. Just great stuff, thank you!

It's funny. But just yesterday, I was thinking, "I am sooo tired." And I wondered if my VLC diet was the cause. BUT, eating low carb is not new for me AND I've been eating plenty of proteing and fat--so that really shouldn't be the case.

Since we both belong to the "Ain't no such thing as a coincidence" group, I'm thinking it's the enemy trying to undermine our new push.

My decision? Take a deep breath and march on--with determination.

" I'm thinking it's the enemy trying to undermine our new push."
I don't know why I didn't think of that... duh.
From past experience, I should have recognized it. I appreciate your take on it. I was just over at MargieAnne's blog, and she also mentioned being so tired!

Okie dokie... marching on with determination it is! :-}

I've slipped, too. I used to tell myself no excuses. Lately, I let deadlines and other things sometimes get in the way. I have to go back to what I used to do. Then I always say ... soon.

Ah yes, that old "tyranny of the urgent"... where stuff with a deadline beats out the important stuff. I'm trying to find the balance to that one, too. :-)

I have always appreciated that phrase, "tyranny of the urgent." I'm not sure why. I just kind of like the feel of it in my mouth. :} The concept is a great one, too.

I used to have a secretary (I shared her with several other counselors, it's not like I had my onw.) who had a plaque on her desk directed at US. It said, "Your lack of planning does not equal my crisis. Get in line." chuckle.

Sometimes when I would approach her desk with a project I needed her to do, I'd pick up that plaque, hand it to her and say, "I have a plan, and if you deal with me now, you won't have a crisis." Oddly, she never thought I was as humorous as her plaque. :D snicker.

That's funny!

Jim told me that in the purchasing department where he works, they put up a sign: "A lack of planning on your part doesn't necessitate an emergency on my part." :-D
