JAN 1st New Year, New Weight & New Poll

Hi Journal & Friends,

Yay... it's a brand new year, like a shiny new penny. I always like that... so full of possibilities.

And it's cool that my monthly weigh-in is on the first day of this new year, too. Drumroll.... 327, for a loss last month of 8 lbs. I was shooting for 10, but hey, I'll take it and do a happy dance to boot! :-D

I am so excited to tell you about an informal poll I'm taking. I want YOUR suggestions!!

For the last 2 years I've followed a blog that has taught me so much: Coach Your Mind, by Coach Dayne Gingrich.   He was a professional athlete, and now teaches others how to have a winning mindset... what he calls The 1%. That's because most people will fall into the 99% category of drifting along, not knowing how, or not choosing to pay the price to achieve their highest potential (that's MY summary).

Well, I want to be one of the 1%.
I want to be teachable.
I want to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals.

And that's where YOU come in. Coach Dayne has made a most generous offer. He is shortly going to be doing a series of teachings, and his "regular" target audience is the athlete.

But he's offered to include one just for us, the weight loss community!

He asked what YOU would like to hear about, anything having to do with MINDSET. What you are interested in learning more about, what you struggle with, what you'd like to learn... such as conquering fears and doubts; how to get or stay motivated; how to use visualization to help you achieve your goals; believing in yourself; learning to focus, etc etc.

Edited to add: I got my facts scrambled, sorry. The 1% Academy is a separate project, and then he is offering to do a video just for us! This will be after the 1% Academy, on January 13th.

Think about it, and if you have an idea, please leave a comment and I'll make sure Coach Dayne gets our ideas. The 1% Academy is due to start January 9th, so we've got to get our suggestions in real soon. I'm looking forward to this, and I hope you will join me. Here's the trailer for the 1% Academy, click HERE.

I am totally convinced that our mindset, our attitude, our thinking, can make or break us on this journey to health. We need our mindset to be our ALLIE, not our enemy. It can be our greatest friend, or deadliest foe.

I get nice comments at times about how much weight I've lost so far. It's taken me a long time to get this far, but it's the first time in my life I've KEPT it off, instead of yo yo-ing. If you really want to do that, too, you'll need to do what I've had to do: work on your mindset. It takes time. You must be willing to invest TIME in yourself. Read, listen, learn. CHANGE YOUR THINKING. I'm being real blunt and honest here. It won't "just happen". You MUST carve out time in your busy schedule for this. You just must. I had to. I had to give up other stuff to do just that. But it was worth it to me.

I am determined to be among that 1% that has unleashed the power that is available to us all, that of having a powerful, positive and healthy mindset. Am I feeling enthusiastic about this?? You betcha! I hope you'll join me, and let me know in the comments what you'd like to hear about from Coach Dayne's video just for us. :-)

From Dr Phil's book: "Your thoughts powerfully program you."

My verse for today: "How priceless is your unfailing love."

My quote for today: "If you stubbornly demand and expect that weight loss and life should be easy, you will consistently fail at weight loss. Why? Life and weight loss are often not easy and there is nothing you can do to change that fact. Long-term weight loss is not for children or sissies. I wish it was but it is not. Get over it and get on with it."  --Dr Matthew Anderson

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

Keeping weight OFF is the hard part. It's the part obesity researchers scratch their head over. Any endeavor that goes against biology, hormones, genetics hits a wall. So, all we're left with is strategy, mind over matter, attitude. You are right. We have to fight constantly and lifelong and it's exhausitng. It's an athletic endeavor of will and mind and spirit not just body.

My suggestion is: "How to do a thing when everything in you is fighting against you to do it." That is the wall dieters and maintainers hit. How to keep going when exhausted. How to keep motivated after the 6 mnths, 9 months, year, 2 years...the long haul.

The magic question? :D

Happy New Year, Retta! Congrats on the loss and let's keep our wins!

This is good.

I'm heading over to Coach's site in a few minutes. I want to be in the 1%. I need to be in the 1%.

You are doing amazingly well. Anyone who continues to lose weight through festive times is smart.

What would I like to know? .... How about staying motivated when things are going well and you are beginning to feel bored with the whole process.

Blessings for 2012.

Ooooh, good one. I'll def add that to the list!

In fact, I was JUST talking with hubby about it being the new year, and how sad it will be when those that are just starting or restarting lose the initial emotional high, and fall away, IF they don't have an underlying structure to keep them going for the long haul. We've got to learn to DO it IN SPITE OF how we feel.

Well, preachin to the choir here, I know YOU know that. ;-) Good suggestion, Mir, thanks.

I have to admit, Anne, that is one question I hadn't thought of!

"How about staying motivated when things are going well and you are beginning to feel bored with the whole process."

On the list it goes. :-)

Fabulous poll...

In all my years of coaching, visualization, power of positive thinking, I believe their is one major difference between athletes and weight loss....

My questions:

1.Athlete's already have their body involved as an important aspect. How do you incorporate that factor for someone who doesn't have the athletic thinking?

2. Bodies naturally respond to emotions. How does changing the mindset effect changing behaviors that produce those natural physical triggers - reactions?

Thanks Loretta

FIRST-----> WAHOO!!!!!!! EIGHT POUNDS GONE!!!!!!!!

Great job! and over the holidays, no less. :D

The poll. My thought is in line with Anne's.

Everything's going well...you've got this thing! Then, suddenly, you don't! What happens there?

My other thought, also hooks on to Anne' (and may be the same dynamic)s. Everyting she said, exceptinstead of "bored" substitute "scared".

What's up with some of us who experience anxiety and run the other way just before we hit goal. Like snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. S'up with that?

And--CONGRATULATIONS!

Deb

8 pounds is A...mazing! Crikey, my friend! :) Seriously, woohoo for you!
My question would have to be about why you can't get someone motivated until they are READY to do it. Why do some have this moment and others just never do, no matter how bad it gets for them- weight and health wise?
Looking forward to the advice, whatever question is chosen.

Congrats on your 8 pounds, Loretta. Woot! I'm proud of you. Holidays and all, and you kept your eye on your goals. I see great things for you in 2012. Like I see you breaking into the 200's, and I can't wait until you write that post.

Mindset is everything. It's something I worked hard to shift, and is how I've maintained.

Sometimes I feel stuck lately and feel I should do more. On the other hand, as you've read earlier, my focus, ambitions and goals are elsewhere.

So, instead, I started thinking about small things I could do and stick to .... more permanent changes.

I was just thinking this morning how I've kept this weight off going on 4 years now. I have never been the same size so long in my life. And your coach friend is right, that kind of thing comes from mindset -- learning not to envy what you can't have and learning to appreciate and love what's good for you. I probably spent 3 months on that alone one year into my losing. Then again about a year later to really drive it home. It sounds weird maybe, but a healthier lifestyle has since become habit. I don't really think about it much any more. Eating healthy makes me feel good. Working out regularly makes me feel great.

These are things you'll soon make habits, too.

Congratulations on losing in December! That is remarkable; it is an extremely tough time to lose weight!

I have been away from my plan, routine, and blogging for awhile, but I wanted to stop by and say hello.

I will check into the coaching site. Keep us the great work, Loretta!

I never use pos thinking... it seemed too cliche... however -- it might be something I could stand to revisit! Thanks, Loretta - I just learned something!
