MAY 20th New Favorite Pretties

Good Afternoon Journal & Friends,

Well, I gone an dun it! I started my "collection". It's all Anne's fault... err... due to her influence. See, one of my favorite blogs is Anne, at Carb Tripper. And one thing I've noticed over the past couple of years in her photos is the beautiful assortment of little plates she uses. She has an amazing collection. Oh, and Lisa at my favorite RECIPE place, 24-7 Low Carb Diner does that too!

So... yep, I decided to spend money on ME... !  and start my own collection of one-of-a-kind little plates AND little tea cups.

But before the tea cups, I went to my favorite online tea place... Republic of Tea and got their 20oz Personal Carafe. Ooh la la! I'd never used one before, and hoped it kept the tea warm for at least an hour. Well! Hello 2 1/2 hours of hot tea! I got the ruby red one, just because.

I decided to pop in occasionally at places like the Goodwill to look for pretty teacups. Here is the first of many.

And Anne's little plates that started it all? Yep, here are the first for my new collection.

I decided I was worth something special, and to not feel guilty about it or apologize. Though I will admit, I did spend time "justifying" my expenditure to MyGuy. Oh well... progress not perfection, yes?

From Dr Phil's book: "This is about you, your weight, and your health; it is not about them."

My verse for today: "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."

My quote for today: "The most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog." --Ambrose Bierce

Enjoy the Journey,

Loretta

I used to collect tea pots. I say "used to" because I haven't added to my collection in a very long time. years.

I love dishes in general and teapots in particular. Salt and pepper shakers, too. :) I have added to that collection. On the serious cheap, too! They're not an ego thing, I just find that they tickle my fancy.

I have my latest set on my counter that look like tiny baskets o f apples. They cost $1. Obviously not great quality--but very cool on my dark green counter.

I could collect unique little plates and teacups/saucers in a heartbeat! Did I say that I like dishes in general? chuckle. Pottery, too. And pitchers. I think that's the tea pot connection actually. I began collecting bowl & pitcher sets when I was 16 years old. I like the curve of the pot/pitcher-yoiu know, that chubby, pot-bellied curve. Hmmm.

Over the past several years, I've become unwilling to spend the money or make the space, so my collections have languished terribly.

Well, okay, enought of that. I love that you're spending money on you.

Yes, that little curved pot-belly shape... so cute and baby like. :-) (just not on ME!)

This could get dangerous... I just spent 29 bucks over at Etsy for a one-of-a-kind handmade pottery expresso mug and saucer! Eek! I'd better stick to the Goodwill from here on out, or Jim will have a cow, LOL!

Oh, we have the neatest place here in the springs called the antique mall. In the mall is the prettiest little store with cups and saucers and lace and gloves. Just beautiful. My kids are still in the house, but I think once they are grown I may start my own collection. It's hard to change our self perception. But we can do it. Right?

Totally awesome!!! Now I've got to have that tea carafe. The little plates? We have the world's smallest kitchen, smaller than most efficiency apartments have... no place to put tea cups or plates. Oh well, I shall very much enjoy seeing all of yours!

I collected lonely cups and plates for awhile. I'm running out of plates [Jay is hard on my dishes -- he broke a whole stack of bowls last month], so I should go hunt for more. I love the carafe.

Oh good for you Loretta. I find pretty stuff at the thrift store all the time. It makes me feel good to have a cup of coffee or a snack on a pretty dish. I also find 'onesies' at Homegoods--do you have one of those in your area?

I had started to collect lovely teacups/saucers and pots. Got one all the way from England, chintz pattern. Makes me happy. But I realized that 1. I have no space to display them and 2. it was getting pricey and 3...back to NO SPACE.

So, I stopped. But I get joy from what I do have, small a "collection" as it is. I even bought a pretty one with a crack cause of the floral pattern at a historic little district shop.

Hey, we ladies like the pretty stuff! And tea tastes better in a pretty cup.
