Shall we talk about The Food Reward Theory of Obesity?
Give me a break! If it tastes good, you'll wanna eat more, and you just might get fat???
Really???
What genius! Why, let's give 'em an award for their brilliant deductions!!! (insert snarky sound effects here)
Hey, wait a minute! Nobody gave my Mama an award for her brilliance when she refused to let us kids pig out on dessert after dinner. Or when she said only one cookie, or it'll spoil your dinner. Yep, Mama had this Food Reward Theory of Obesity all figured out. She knew you needed to control the sweets.
Let's see, it went something like this:
It tastes good.
Kids will wanna eat more than they should because it's sweet and nummy.
I'm the Mama. I will say No.
End of story.
Nowadays, they are writing papers and books, giving lectures and holding conferences, and arguing with other researchers over "the cause" of obesity.
Come on... do they think we are suckers? I for one am tired of this stupid arguing!
Of COURSE if you taste a yummy tasting food, especially a sweet one, it could trigger a response in you that says: Eat more, suckah! And that response could be physical, emotional, or both.
Duh! Since when is this news??
Answer: Choose whatever floats yer boat.
Eat sweet stuff, or eat fruit, or eat both... it's a choice.
I am sooo over it!
I've had it.
I am DONE listening to all the Educated Idiots constantly coming up with the latest and greatest in New Theories as to how we got fat.
I wanna just get on with productive action, and get healthy. Enough with the silly theories already! I admit I over simplified the "theory", but come on, there's more important things in life than quibbling over minutiae and unproven theories.
Okay. Rant over.
All done.
Happy again.
Now let's see... what's that theory about serotonin and dopamine deficiency fueling our cravings?? Ack! My head's gonna 'slode...
So... I've decided to take a Summer Blogcation. No more theory thinkin... it's starting to feel counterproductive.
I'm going to relax and spend time over at my art blog, HERE.
I plan to pop in for a couple of pre-planned special announcements, but other than that, my poor little brain needs a break! :-)
Later Gators,
Loretta

You have left me speechless....and perhaps a bit concerned.
Enjoy your break, tho!

Sorry, just letting off steam. My Dad used to say that the folks with all theory who talked like know it alls yet had nothing practical to offer were "Educated Idiots". He was from New England, and had a way with words. :-}
Anyway, I just need to stop reading all that stuff. I'll stick with the "friendly" blogs. :-D
Great post, Loretta! I agree with you on the theories about obesity and what we should do about it. I think that eating less and moving more makes more sense than a lot of things. Most diets work--if you work them. That is my problem sometimes--working them. Have a great blogcation. It seems that there are quite a few bloggers who need a mid-summer break. Writing a blog is pretty intense. Take care.
Good for you! Too much time spent on theories can be quite destructive for sure. And annoying, but let's face it we all get caught up in it sometimes.
I know a family that spends so much time 'theorizing' about what would be best for all of them when it comes to doing anything fun that they never actually DO much of anything.
Yup, you're definitely ready for the doing. Have a fun summer!
I once had a lovely, attractive, slender woman tell me she had to watch what she ate too. Somehow it impressed me that people who do not have 'food cravings or addictions' eat mindfully.
If we are honest we all know that more food than our body can utilise for energy has an obvious result ..... excess body fat. Undoing the damage is a mixture of discipline and self discovery. Simple.
The results depend on how much we want it ... whatever It is.
I miss cakes and biscuits but the consequences of eating them are no longer worth indulging. All the talk, all the books don't change anything. Let's just do it ..... stick with our plan and become healthier in body and mind.
Enjoy your freedom from here and get on with your art.
Remember that creative people are allowed to make a mess, especially when their creative juices are flowing faster than they can express them.
I hope you got this stuff out of your system ...... it could turn toxic. That was meant to be funny ..... not sure that it really is. *smiles*
Will be in touch by email one day soon.
Blessings.
I disagree, and the reason is that some people decided to see what the causes of the reduction in crime in the US was, and discovered that legalising abortion was one of the causes. Other people have said that women smoking less is a cause of increased obesity. Why weren't people as obese in the late 70's when food was cheap and you could eat until you were sick for less than $10? People want to know these things.
Yep, having a great plan doesn't do diddly squat if I don't DO that plan, LOL!
Summer seems like a good time to get outdoors from the computer, yes?
Thanks, and I hope you have a wonderful summer, too. :-)
It used to be that simple for me, too, until I had "dieted" enough years to ruin my endocrine system; then illness and age and shifting hormones had to arrive at the party and... well, it's just harder now. But I refuse to accept that it's impossible. :-)
Thanks for stopping by, Niecy.
I love checking in at your blog, MargieAnne. It's so encouraging to see how well you are doing. YOU are one of the ones that shows me it can be done at any age. You go, girl!
"Why weren't people as obese in the late 70's when food was cheap and you could eat until you were sick for less than $10?"
Tolstoy said: "I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives."
If you are serious in your quest "to know these things", here is an article which is sure to give you food for thought:

Be forewarned, it's controversial to ALL sides! But if I'm being intellectually honest, I have to admit he makes some excellent points.
But since I am on a self-imposed restriction from delving into theories for awhile, I won't be discussing this further. I just include it here for your amusement.
Enjoy your blogcation, Loretta. I agree with you about the theories.
Thanks, Mary.
I do plan on popping back in on July 23rd... wouldn't miss your book's launch party for the world. :-)
I hear ya loud and clear! And thanks for calling them theories. That's my pet peeve--many of these 'experts' present their theories as 'truth.' The word theory is never mentioned, and people get more and more confused and conflicted about what the truth is.
I have come to the conclusion that WHATEVER the reasons...the answer remains the same... It's my ovrall theor y of life. Whatever reasons for sin or destructive behavior. Whatever excuses, the answers remain the same...they are in God's word. Whatever the CAUSE of our obesity. The answer remains the same...eat less, move more. What you choose to eat less of...how you choose to move more..it's all up to you. I sometimes think we substitute complexity for action. It's easier to blab about it, than it is to do something about it. blogcations rock.
Ouch!
